Broaden children’s horizons with free access to the best films

A national initiative has been launched to give schools the opportunity to screen the best worldwide films, past and present for free.
After a successful pilot project in 25 areas of the UK, Filmclub, has been launched as a free service to all schools nationwide.
It is as simple as it sounds. Registered schools select from the 1600 titles offered and the film/s selected are sent out to the school with a pre-paid envelope to return after screening. All free of charge.
The aim is to introduce children of all ages to a wider range of films than they might otherwise have access to through their local multiplex or TV channels. The founders of Filmclub want to build a nationwide, school-based network of filmclubs showing the widest variety of films. To encourage schools to set-up a filmclub as well as the free films each member school is given a poster set to advertise their filmclub meetings and screenings, free support including advice on how to run a filmclub and a visit from a Filmclub adviser. There is also a comprehensive website which encourages schools to post reviews and recommendations.
Filmclub is funded by the DCSF, FilmAgency Wales and Scottish Screen, with Lovefilm as the partner providing free access to all it's titles. Visit the website here.
